EVANSTON, Ill. – Chase Green managed the only RBI of the day for SIUE as Northwestern defeated the baseball Cougars 4-1 in the finale of a three-game nonconference series at Rocky Miller Park.
"To say the offense wasn't there today is a pretty fair assessment," SIUE Head Coach Tony Stoecklin said.
The Wildcats (17-32) took a 2-0 lead after two innings. Luke Dauch hit a solo home run in the first inning. Josh Perlmutter added an RBI groundout in the second inning.
Green's RBI came on a third-inning single and scored Denton Reed to make it 2-1. Green was 1 for 4.
Perlmutter added a two-run home run in the fourth for the final margin. Perlmutter finished 2 for 4 with the three RBIs.
"Mike had a couple of times where he got the ball up, and they made him pay," Stoecklin said. "Zach threw well in relief. He mixed up his pitches, and he kept the ball down."
SIUE (19-30) managed just five hits against a trio of Northwestern pitchers. Nick Friar (5-0) allowed the run on five hits over five innings.
"Early in the game we put some guys on base," Stoecklin said. "We just didn't good at-bats with runners in scoring position."
For the game, the Cougars left 13 runners on base.
SIUE finishes the regular season with four home games. The Cougars will entertain Evansville Tuesday at Simmons Baseball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
"We look forward to finishing the season on a high note at home," Stoecklin said.
