Geissinger led the Cougars for the week in nearly every offensive statistical category and excelled in the weekend series, leading SIUE to a 2-1 OVC series win over Morehead State. The award is the second of the season for Geissinger, who was chosen as co-Player of the Week March 10th.
In Wednesday's loss at Bradley, Geissinger was 1 for 2 and collected the Cougars' only RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The sophomore helped SIUE erase a 7-0 deficit Friday to defeat MSU in 11 innings. Geissinger singled to drive home the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning. He had earlier tied the game with a single in the bottom of the ninth. He reached base five times in the game and added a run.
In Saturday's first game he enjoyed the first multi-home run game of his career. Geissinger homered twice and was 3 for 5 overall with three runs scored. In Saturday's final game, Geissinger connected on his first career grand slam in the bottom of the ninth trimming the Eagles' lead to 8-7.
For the week Geissinger had a slugging percentage of 1.067. His on-base percentage was .600. He started all four games as shortstop and did not make an error.
It is the fourth time this season an SIUE player has won the Player or Pitcher of the Week award.
Geissinger joins Southeast Missouri's Travis Hayes (Pitcher of the Week) as the OVC's weekly award winners.
