EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The SIUE baseball team begins Wednesday what will be a four-game series this season with Saint Louis University.
Wednesday's game is set for GCS Ballpark in Sauget at 3 p.m. The game can be heard live on WSIE FM 88.7. Joe Pott will be doing the play-by-play.
This is the first of four contests between the Cougars and the Billikens this season. The two teams play at SimmonsCooper Complex on Apr. 7 and at Saint Louis University on Apr. 8. The two teams return to GCS Ballpark again on May 13.
SIUE, 3-12, take on a Billiken squad which enters the week with an 11-8 record. SLU travels to Ole Miss Tuesday before returning back to the St. Louis area.
Cougar second baseman Josh Street leads the Cougar offense with five home runs and 24 runs batted in. Among the starters, Street joins outfielder Adam Eggemeyer as the team's leading hitters with a .391 batting average.
Spencer Patton is expected to make the start for the Cougars. He holds an 0-3 record with a 6.75 earned run average in 16 innings pitched.
SIUE and SLU also share a bond with its head coaches. Both SIUE coach Gary Collins and SLU coach Darin Hendrickson are graduates of SIUE. Hendrickson, in fact, played for Collins from 1990 to 1991.
