Scott Slarks begins his first year at Southern Illinois University
Edwardsville as the Sports Information Graduate Assistant. He will
assist with daily operations in the sports information office with
director Eric Hess. Slarks will also serve as a play-by-play
broadcaster for SIUE Athletics. A native of Owatonna, Minn., Slarks
joins the Cougars after serving as the Interim Director of Sports
Information at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., where he served
as the primary media contact for all of the Majors' 18 Division III
intercollegiate sports. Slarks is a 2009 Cum Laude graduate of
Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., with a degree in
business management. As an undergraduate, he served as a student
assistant for four years in the Sports Information Department and
was president and a two-year member of the club volleyball team.
While working in the Sports Information Department, Slarks was the
primary statistician for the hockey, soccer, and baseball teams;
was responsible for maintaining the athletics Web site and record
books, and provided play-by-play and color commentary for various
sporting broadcasts. He also helped create media guides and wrote
game stories for the Golden Gusties. A member of CoSIDA, Slarks has
been highly involved with athletics over the last six years,
working as a lead statistician for the annual Schwan Cup high
school hockey tournament in Blaine, Minn. He also served as a rink
coordinator at the USA International Hockey Cup, which included
supervising eight hockey rinks at the world's largest ice arena.
Slarks is the son of Gary, a Facilities Analyst for Federated
Insurance Co., and Judy, a first-grade teacher at Medford
Elementary School. Scott has an older brother, James (28). He
currently resides in Edwardsville, Ill.
