James Mays was named as assistant athletic trainer at SIUE in January 2007. Mays is a Licensed Certified Athletic Trainer and a Red Cross Professional Rescuer, certified in CPR/AED. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and has taught as a lecturer in the Kinesiology Department teaching "Responding to Emergencies: First Aid-CPR." Mays earned a bachelor of science degree in Athletic Training from Millikin University and worked as the student athletic trainer at Millikin for three years. Mays covered football, soccer, wrestling, baseball, softball, track, volleyball and men's basketball. At SIUE, Mays' primary responsibilities include men's soccer and women's basketball. Prior to joining the SIUE staff, Mays worked as an athletic trainer for Alton Memorial Hospital Human Motion Institute and a fitness center instructor for the Edwardsville YMCA. Mays also holds a Master of Science in Education from the department of Kinesiolgy at SIUE. James and his wife, Rosa, welcomed their first dauhghter, Leah, to the family in August 2010.
