Eric Hess is in his 21st year as the Director of Sports
Information at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
He is responsible for the daily operation of the sports information program at SIUE, which includes 18 sports. He serves as the main contact for men's soccer, volleyball, women's basketball, wrestling and softball.
Hess started at SIUE in August 1988 as a graduate assistant and moved into the duties as Director of Sports Information in February 1990. He has won several awards for publications through the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). An active member of CoSIDA, Hess serves on the Committee on Committees.
Since joining SIUE, Hess has been the host sports information contact for countless conference, NCAA regional and NCAA national championships, including four NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships, one NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship and one NCAA Division II Baseball Championship in 2008. He also helped for six years as a media relations associate for the NCAA Division II Basketball Championships in Louisville, Ky.
Hess has served as the Voice of the Cougars previously, calling the 2007 national championship game for the SIUE softball program in Akron, Ohio. During the 2007 NCAA Tournament title run, he called two SIUE no-hitters. He also was courtside for SIUE's only appearance at the Elite Eight in men's basketball during the 2005-2006 season.
A 1988 graduate of the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, Hess previously worked at the <i>Edwardsville Intelligencer</i> as a sports reporter and as a sports copy editor and co-Sports Editor at <i>The Daily Iowan</i>. Hess is married to Kelly Thompson-Hess. His step-daughter, Kayla, is in high school.
