Kurt Bertels was named the Assistant Athletics Director for Business Affairs in September 2012.

Bertels' responsibilities includes directing the operations of the athletic business office, which includes coordinating all purchasing, payment of invoices, and the processing of ticket transactions.  

Bertels returned to SIUE athletics in August 2011 as the Events Administrator. He previously worked in events management at SIUE while earning his Masters in Sports Management from January 2009 to July 2010.

Bertels then moved on to Kroenke Sports Enterprises in Denver, Colo. where he served as a ticket operations assistant , working with the Denver Nuggets (NBA), Colorado Avalanche (NHL), Colorado Rapids (MLS) and the Pepsi Center.

Prior to his first stint with SIUE, the Dorsey, Ill. native spent more than a year with Promotions, Inc. as a field ambassador, hosting mobile marketing events for Cable News Network (CNN) and Bosch Power Tools. Bertels also worked with the St. Louis Sports Commission, assisting with the 2007 Frozen Four NCAA Division I Hockey Championships and the 2008 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. He was the lead event coordinator for the Yes! youth hockey clinic during the 2007 Frozen Four.

Bertels is a 2006 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University where he played four years of football for the Bearcats. He resides in Edwardsville.
