ST. LOUIS - A standout volleyball player and the long-time NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) were inducted into the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Hall of Fame Tuesday.

Michelle (Gilman) Cox and Dr. John Meisel were among the honorees. Also inducted was former Northern Kentucky University volleyball coach Mary Bierman, Northern Kentucky tennis player Jamie O'Hara, and University of Indianapolis track and field competitor Andy Richardson. Former Northern Kentucky FAR Dr. Thomas Kearns also accepted his Hall of Fame honor from 2010.

Cox (Gilman) was a four-year letter winner for the Cougars and a member of the inaugural 1995 SIUE volleyball team. She set and still holds numerous records for the Cougars, including kills (1,897), attack attempts (4,432), sets played (491), points (2,594.5), points per set (5.28), blocks (756), and blocks per set (1.54).

She set the standards for future Cougars by recording 11 triple-doubles (double figures in three different categories of kills, digs and blocks). She led SIUE to a school record 29 victories and the school's first NCAA Championship in the program's fourth year of existence.

A two-time GLVC Player of the Year, Cox (Gilman) was a three-time All-GLVC selection and earned All-Region honors in 1996 and 1998. She was named SIUE's Outstanding Athlete Awards winner and Sportsmanship Award recipient her senior season. She was the team Most Valuable Player in all four of her seasons as a Cougar.

Meisel served as the GLVC's President from 2005 to 2007, the GLVC Treasurer from 2000 to 2005, and as a member of the GLVC Executive Committee. In his role as the FAR, it was Meisel's duty to cast institutional votes on league policies and procedures.

He represented the GLVC on the NCAA Division II Management Council from 2005 to 2007. Meisel played a key role in the GLVC's expansion efforts in 2004 and the development of the league's staff.

Meisel has served as SIUE's NCAA FAR since 1986. He has directly reported in this role to five different Chancellors at SIUE and currently continues in that post. He also was an instrumental force in SIUE's move to the NCAA Division I level. He serves as a member of the NCAA Certification Self-Study Steering Committee for SIUE Chancellor Vaughn Vandegrift.

Cox (Gilman) is the fourth student-athlete to be named to the GLVC's Hall of Fame. She follows Misi Clark (women's basketball), Mark Bugger (baseball) and Jenny Esker (softball). Meisel is the first SIUE administrator to be selected to this honor by the GLVC.
