SIUE Hosts National Sport Risk Management Workshop
May 20, 2010
EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will be the site of a National Sport Risk Management Training Workshop designed for NCAA Division I, II, and III institutions.
The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) is proceeding with plans to host these workshops on June 8-9 with funding from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Under the guidelines of the federal grant, these workshops are offered free of charge to college or university stadium safety and security staff.
For questions about the event, please contact Nick Nabors, the Program Coordinator of the NCS4, who can be reached at 601-266-4694 or by e-mail at nick.nabors@usm.
This program, in partnership with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), comes on the heels of an increasing national focus to deter terrorist activity, respond to natural disasters, manage crowd control, and enhance security at all university and college sport venues across the nation. The significance of this collaborative effort is the universities will be exposed to "best practices" and the most significant sport security technology.
The project will train an estimated 5,370 key personnel from over 1,000 NCAA Division I, II, and III institutions via 80 regional workshops. The proposed training program is highly innovative in that it builds multi-agency collaboration by delivering instruction to intact university teams. Members of these teams will include representatives from the athletics department, campus police, emergency medical services, fire/HazMat, and local jurisdiction emergency management.
