EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - SIUE student-athletes recorded a combined 3.194 grade point average (GPA), an all-time high for the Athletics Department, for the 2011 fall semester.
It also marks the 11th consecutive semester that SIUE student-athletes have posted a combined GPA of better than 3.0.
"I am very pleased with the academic performance of our student-athletes. They work hard in the classroom to make meaningful progress towards earning a degree, and their continued performance should be lauded," said SIUE Director of Athletics Dr. Brad Hewitt. "They have demonstrated a commitment to academic success."
Men's golf earned the highest GPA of any SIUE athletics program for the second straight semester at 3.510. Women's soccer recorded the top GPA among women's programs with a 3.502. This is the fourth consecutive semester that the women's soccer team has captured this honor.
Thirteen of SIUE's 16 athletics programs finished with a GPA of 3.0 or better, including the aforementioned teams, as well as baseball (3.132), women's track and field (3.288), men's cross country (3.308), women's cross country (3.458), men's soccer (3.057), softball (3.203), men's tennis (3.035), women's tennis (3.412), volleyball (3.485), wrestling (3.068), and women's golf (3.258).
More than two-thirds of all student-athletes (186 of 277) finished with a fall GPA of better than 3.0. More than one-third (93 of 277) of all-student athletes were named to the Dean's List with a fall GPA of better than 3.5.
